Happy Halloween

We got to do a lot of fun things to celebrate Halloween.  First, Vanessa got a pumpkin from her preschool to carve for the Syracuse Pumpkin Walk. We looked up some ideas online and she chose to do a Rapunzel one. The kids had a lot of fun cleaning out the pumpkin and Vanessa got to help me cut out the design. It turned out super cute. She was so excited to be able to put it on display.

Vanessa had a Halloween Party at school where she got to dress up and do lot of fun activities. I was able to go and help out and see her. She loved being able to dress up in her costume yet again.  At the end school, they had a parade where we got to see all the kids in their cute costumes. It was super fun.

Later that night, we went out to see Vanessa's pumpkin at the Pumpkin Walk. It was a bit chilly but we bundled up and had fun seeing all of the pumpkins. Some of the pumpkins were so detailed and looked awesome! Afterward, we went back to Grandpa and Grandma Sorensen's for some hot chocolate to warm us up.

Our ward had a Trunk or Treat where we got to come and eat some good chili and soup and then let the kids for Trunk or Treating. Vanessa was able to get her face painted at one of the booths. She wanted a pink ghost and pink star on her cheeks. She loved them and at the end of the night didn't want to take a bath to wash them off.  Owen had a lot of fun wearing his costume. He even gave us some dragon kisses with that long red tongue and roared a few times for us. Vanessa knew exactly what to do when it came time to get candy. She was off and going. I got to take Owen around and teach him what to say. By the end of it, he knew that he needed to say "Trick or Treat" to get candy. His favorite candy to go for were suckers and anything green.

The night before Halloween we carved and painted our pumpkins. The kids really enjoyed painting their pumpkins. Owen really had a lot of fun painting himself while singing, "Its a mash, a monnnster mash. Its a mash, a graveyard bash." It was super cute to watch him. And of course, his pumpkin just had to be painted green. Vanessa's pumpkin was a rainbow pumpkin. She liked picking lots of different colors to paint hers.

Mark's pumpkin was very difficult to carve due to how thick it was! We couldn't believe the meat in that pumpkin. We both picked simple and fun faces to carve. We really enjoyed being able to spend some good quality time together as a family and have fun.

Halloween Day! I got to spend the day with the kids playing and talking about Halloween. We had Dracula coffin sandwiches and eyeballs for lunch. For dinner, I made a special jack-o-lantern pizza. The kids thought that was pretty neat. After dinner, we quickly cleaned up and got the kids dressed in their costumes. Vanessa was such a cute Tinkerbell and Owen such a scary looking dragon! It was sure fun having our very own neighborhood to go trick or treating.  It was also fun to have trick or treaters. We were able to walk around a few block and came away with quite a bit of candy. Owen enjoyed it this time and was getting really good at saying trick or treat. Vanessa loved running to all of the houses and getting treats. The thing that they enjoyed the most was answering the door and handing out candy. They thought that was so much fun. What good helpers we have. This Halloween was loaded with fun and lots of good memories. Having kids sure makes celebrating holidays so much better!
